Medical Device Daily: Med-Tech Notes - MAKO Surgical

September 30, 2011 - Medical Device Daily

MAKO Surgical (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) is focused on developing and commercializing both its RIO Robotic-Arm Interactive Orthopedic system and its Restoris implants for orthopedic knee and hip procedures (known as MAKOplasty). The RIO is a surgeon-interactive tactile surgical platform that incorporates a robotic arm and patient-specific visualization technology, which enables precise, consistently reproducible boneresection for the accurate insertion and alignment of its Restoris implants. In a separate study published recently and presented at the conference, MAKO presented the clinical outcomes of the first 500 MAKOplasty patients, demonstrating the significant improvement in implant accuracy available through robotic surgery and the improvement in patient recovery and function. MAKO is performing a randomized clinical trial in Europe measuring patient outcomes, as compared with one of the leading implants in the market.
